I mentioned yesterday that when I know what I want but don’t know how to get it, I do what comes naturally then give up and ask the Universe.Example 1
For several months now, I’ve brooded on an idea to help others discover who they are via self-expression and good writing. I envisaged a small class in the community centre at the end of our road, a converted school building 100 years old (see pic, taken on rainy evening). I discussed the idea with two community workers and waited for something to happen. I didn’t have the confidence to do anything on my own: needed some kind of collaboration.
Yesterday I was looking for some way to volunteer in good causes and discovered idealist.org. As “skill offered” I put “writing” and pressed the button. An organisation in New York is offering a free course to youngsters over the internet, on exactly the lines I had envisaged. They are looking for additional mentors. I sent in my application.
Example 2
I’ve been looking for work and if an angel had visited, clipboard in hand, to record my specifications, I’d have said “a small company nearby which appreciates the experience of an older person, needs a computer programmer, and has premises within walking distance”. Today I discover that a friend of a friend is recruiting with that specification for a company 200 yards from my house.
Example 3
I’ve had an idea in the back of my mind, to write a regular column in a newspaper: basically to get paid for writing what’s essentially a blog post, tailored to the paper’s standards and readership.
Unprompted by me, a journalist friend from a big city in India asked his editor if I would be considered in such a role and was told yes. I only have to send some samples. Given this amazing opportunity, I tried it out and soon realised that it wasn’t what I wanted to do after all.
***
I’ve written about this phenomenon a few times in my blog and mentioned “The Cosmic Ordering Service” – getting what you want as simply as ordering pizza, though you sometimes have to wait longer. I’ve met one of the authors of a book with this title.
I don’t actually believe anything, in the sense of a theory. “Angelic signs” make a handy label. It seems to me that the Universe is saying I can have everything I want: just ask. This might have implications for others but you won’t catch me writing a book telling how “You too can get everything you want”. People can work that out for themselves.
I have no religion and no intention to be a preacher-man. But it’s written up in Luke 11:1-13.

To each his own, as it should be...who knows what thru yon window breaks...stranger than fiction...amazing grace..
You are a good example, I am glad to hear of your offerings, hope you get what you need Vincent, when you need it.
Thank you for your always welcomed comments. I think this idea is a very interesting one that you write about. Though I have never experienced it myself, there are those who believe that when you are really aligned with your heart's desire, the doors will open to you in opportunity. I wouldn't know really, but perhaps I'm not yet in touch with my heart's desire lol!
Your writing is so fluid and melodious, I do hope an avenue that fits your heart's desire does open for you. I also am very grateful for your input. To learn from your experience has been (and is) a blessing and a gift.
Thanks so much, Jim and Joanne.
I think the heart's desire has itself to be aligned. I've had this idea for a long time and must surely have written about it: that the prayers which get answered are the prayers we are prompted to pray.
Alignment is surely the right word, even if we are not sure of what is supposed to be aligned with what! It doesn't matter. We don't have to do it ourselves, but step out of the way whilst it is being done.
To a self-styled "atheist", such things are confused nonsense. To me they are an explanation why mankind has always been drawn to myths and rituals of the kind which today we are compelled by our culture to call "religions".
Joanne, I love your new blog! Now (and not till now) i am glad you stopped the other one.
it seems to me that the real challenge is knowing what one wants and needs. I don't think of it as angelic, but often when I'm able to define my needs, I find there is an opportunity there waiting. The critical issue is to be fully aware of what my needs are, vague isn't good enough.
Hayden, you have it there in a nutshell. How to distinguish wants and needs. In my experience there resides within us an auto-compass, as it were, which is permanently aligning our heart's desire to the purposes of the Universe.
Then like the birds, we can migrate in the right direction.
For myself it is not wants that bother me - I have everything I want - but insecurities, that is to say fear. So there is a struggle between the knowledge that everything will be fine and the unwillingness to wait in a state of uncertainty
Ah - I find your reference to Luke 11. It sounds to me as though you may not believe in God, but He believes in you. Our prayers should be prompted by the hearts desire or necessity. There is a fine line between a true prayer and selfish requests.
Well Beth I think that is how it should be. I am his creature, he should certainly believe in me. Should I believe in him? Only to the extent that he shows himself to me.
Bravo, Well Said Vincent! No one should fear God as if He was only human and fraught with weaknesses of character that made Him dangerous to His own creatures. Amen, let Him come out of the shadows and show Himself, Amen!
